Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Revels
Revels’ Commitment to DEI

For more than 50 years, the Revels mission has been to celebrate the cultural and seasonal traditions of the world through the shared experience of music, dance, and story. Diversity, equity and inclusion are vital ingredients for the fulfillment of the Revels mission and were prioritized as a core strategy of our 2020-2025 strategic framework adopted in March 2020.

Our DEI work started with a focus on race equity. Biweekly discussions for Revels staff started in the summer of 2020, based on a learning curriculum developed by our DEI consultant. Revels drafted a race equity plan in February 2021, and invited members of our community to join a DEI Committee to review and discuss the actions proposed. In September 2021, the Revels Board unanimously approved the DEI Committee as a permanent, standing committee of the Revels Board, and officially adopted the race equity actions recommended by the DEI Committee.

Our current plan is a living document, as we recognize that consistent and mindful discussion, collaboration, and action are required to create meaningful change and an organization that welcomes and celebrates the entirety of our global community. The governance, programmatic, and operational actions laid out in the Revels DEI Plan currently focus on race equity, and many of these actions are already underway. The plan will expand as our focus shifts to include additional areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion work.

Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is neither performative nor short-term. The celebration of our diverse world is a long-standing, guiding principle of our work, foundational to our organization and to our society as a whole.  We welcome you, as always, to join us in our conversation!
