Hailing from Mali, 2019 NEA National Heritage Fellow Balla Kouyaté was raised in the Djeli tradition as a Balafon player. Balla takes us on a journey through his work as a Djeli and the rich tradition of the balafon, an instrument that has been in his family for over a thousand years.
