Celebrating Christmas and the winter solstice,
the Midwinter Revels is a unique mixture of
music and theater,
high and low art,
ritual and celebration,
the amateur and the professional.
The wild and the holy.
Always included is Susan Cooper’s
iconic poem “The Shortest Day.”
Occasionally, as a segue from one musical mood to another,
I added a verse or two of my own.
Mostly doggerel, these offerings reflect
a recurring them for this time of year —
the mystery of life,
death and rebirth.
