Here are some new artists that Maeve Gilchrist (harpist and singer in the 2012 Irish Revels and in our Fringe concert in March of this year with Carlos Nuñez) thinks are “the bomb.”
LAU – “a fantastic Scottish trio getting a big name in the UK for their unique and contemporary approach to the music”

KARINE POLWART – “…amazing Scottish singer and songwriter. Her most recent album “Traces” is stunning.”

THIS IS HOW WE FLY – “…Improv. and crossover, this is a fantastic group of Caoimhin O Raghallaig’s fiddling, Nic Garreiss (percussive dancer) clarinet and percussion. Based in Ireland.
ANAIS MITCHELL/JEFFERSON HAMER – “Their reinterpretation of the Child ballads on their latest album “Child Ballads” won a BBC Radio 2 traditional folk award and has had fantastic international acclaim. Beautiful harmonies.”
VASEN – “Swedish folk trio – immense band!”
WINIFRED HORAN,/MICK MACAULLEY/COLM O’CAOIMH – “Great trio, (Win and Mick from Solas) – Good friends and wonderful warm musicians!”
And Paddy’s pick, a band that has been around for a while – SALSA CELTICA – an unlikely and entirely successful mash up of big band Salsa and Scottish fiddles and pipes.
